Community Service: Feeding the Homeless
This morning, I went for community service in Downtown SLC with Aylar and Jimmy. I joined the Intervarsity Christian Group in their Warm and Filled project, an effort by the leaders Veronica and Michelle to distribute hot chocolate and pop tarts to the homeless community every Saturday. We never preached Christianity, but we merely wanted to show them that we cared. Today it was snowing heavily. My boots were all soaked, I could not even feel my fingers. I was shivering like a leaf in the wind. As I passed cups of hot chocolate to the homeless people, I realized how blessed I am. As cold as I was, I knew that I had a home to go back to, a room to keep me warm, and food to keep my belly filled, whereas these homeless people have to endure the cold, sometimes even without a jacket and only a scarf to keep them warm. It saddens me whenever I think of them. My heart goes out to all these people. May God bless them and keep them warm and filled.
