Vitamilk

On my recent visit to Betong, aside from stocking up my supplies of Pejoy, Pocky and Pepero, I also bought something else. It's called Vitamilk.

I actually discovered this in a Thai restaurant called Frame in PJ when I went there for a meal with my room mate. It was sold at the price of RM3.00 (now with GST and all it's probably already RM3.50).

I tried original, red bean, black bean and they all tasted good. In my visit to Betong, I tried some other flavours: Double Black, Chocolate, Barley & Malt (this is ok) and Banana Milk (yucky unless you like banana).

So far, I like everything except for (perhaps) Barley & Malt and Banana Milk. Vitamilk has a weird but nice taste, it feels rather thick and creamy on the tongue. I read on another blog that this might be due to the thickener additive in the drink. But nonetheless it is one of my favorite chilled beverage!

It's sold at 7-Eleven at 15฿ per bottle, but I managed to find them for 14฿ at K-Mart, so I bought 9 bottles at one-go, because I know I won't be able to go back to buy more the next day.

If you know somewhere I can buy these in bulk in Malaysia, do let me know!

P/S: I found this article online stating why one should never drink soy milk, so drink at your own expense!

Review: Frame Thai @ Happy Mansion

Today's lunch was at Frame Thai, a shop run by Thai nationals.

Not gonna comment much, just one word: NICE!!!

This is Angie's meal. Thick Rice Noodle in Clear Soup (RM5)

My dish is called Fried Noodles with Soy Sauce (if I'm not mistaken).
But anyways it's number 11 on the menu if you wanna try it out.

A close-up. It's really scrumptious!
The serving is quite small, though.
It costs RM8.

Their menus are in Thai, with English translations. The people there don't speak much English, so better if you know some basic Thai if you wanna ask for anything. Angie was craving for BBQ Pork but it wasn't served anywhere, so she requested me to ask them. I squeezed my brains for some of the Thai words I learned in my 3 weeks in Thai last time and asked, "Wan ni mi mhu BBQ mai?" meaning "is there BBQ Pork today"? And she replied me something which I thought was no. Then she repeated "Phrung ni" (tomorrow). Maybe we'll go back tomorrow for BBQ Pork! *super excited* :)

Thank God I still understand these basics. It never hurts to learn a foreign language. You don't know when it'll come in handy.

CONCLUSION
Pros: Delicious!
Cons: A little expensive, given their delicate serving size.

UPDATE 31/12: Went back there today to try their soya bean and BBQ pork, and they are really tasty! The soya bean tastes more beany/milky and is totally different from Malaysian-made soya bean drinks. The BBQ pork is equal portions chewy, juicy and crunchy, covered with a generous layer of special sauce that enhances the taste. It's a must-try!

This is worth an upgrade in ratings

Review: Ume Tei 梅亭 @ Amcorp Mall

The Chienchilla and her bestie Angie (plus Gan Wei Lin) decided to try some Korean food today, so they headed to Amcorp Mall's Haeun Khon but to their despair, it's closed! :(

So they headed to Ue Tei (梅亭), a Japanese restaurant also in Amcorp Mall. The place gives off a quaint, homey feel with wooden chairs and tables.

Me and Angie wore similar jewelry today hehe... Guys would call this "gay" but for girls it's a fun thing to accessorize in similar themes! My jewelry are all from Indonesia, the Manas Jakarta one is a gift from Ridha, while the others are from Grace, Reza and Raisa.

Me and Angie decided to share a Ramen Bento Set (RM23.20 inclusive of 10% service charge and 5% govt tax) cos we saw that it was inclusive of a bowl of ramen noodle + rice + Chicken katsu + 2 side dishes (fern spikes with egg & pickles) + a slice of watermelon, so we figured it'd be just nice for both of us. Ended up both of us are not quite full, but it's ok, cos we should eat simple for dinner anyways.

The ramen noodles resembles our wantan noodles, the soup and ingredients were nice, though the ham slice was a bit hard to chew. My favourite would be the chicken katsu & salad, dipped in their special sauce. But somehow I favour their sauces more than the food.

Before the dishes came out, the waiter handed us an empty bowl. Very observant waiter indeed - cos we're gonna share a set, so obviously we need an extra bowl. And they refilled our cups diligently throughout the whole meal. Thumbs up for their good service.

Will I come back again? Yes! But I'll probably try something else. :)

Review: Vvaffle @ Jaya One

Vvaffle is a new concept store selling creative, delicious waffles. I was one of the 200 lucky birds who got to try out their waffles for free @ the Jaya One Markets event on 20th December 2014. Below are the waffles I tried last time:

Torched Japanese mayo and takoyaki sauce, sprinkled with chilli pepper and dried bonito

Blueberry cream cheese with crushed Oreo waffle

Angie and I went to Jaya One for the FOS Year End Sale today, so we decided to pay a visit to Vvaffle. The shop is located on level P1.

The design is fun and quirky, with cute drawings adorning the whole section of the counter.

Pretty sure this is hand-drawn.

Today Angie and I only tested the Belgian Liege Waffle with peanut toppings (RM6.50) cos we want to leave some space for dinner. The waffle is slightly crunchy on the outside but soft and warm on the inside. Spiced up with semi-liquid dark chocolate and peanut toppings, it's plain wonderful! I'll be coming back for more good vvaffles. :)
